Dorothy’s gift keeps giving in Rowville
ROWVILLE’S Dorothy McKie has rolled up her sleeve for the 100th time.
Mrs McKie, 70, received blood during surgery in her 20s, and has been repaying the gift ever since.
It is hoped others will follow her lead and give blood at the Ringwood Donor Centre this holiday season.
Australian Red Cross Blood Service spokeswoman Erin Lagoudakis said without donations the country risked running very low on platelets, an important part of the blood used to help treat cancer patients.
“Unfortunately platelets only last five days so we need a constant supply to ensure cancer patients can continue to receive live-saving treatment over the holidays,” Ms Lagoudakis said.
